Discussion

RHELLER (asker) Aug 16, 2006:
:-) Neither had I! For the record, it is "grenaillage" en français. Never bored in this profession.
Bourth (X) Aug 16, 2006:
I'm glad I came! Had never encountered US shot peening.
Terry Richards Aug 16, 2006:
Bourth was on the right track - it's 1/10 millimeters. If there's multiple ultrasonic transducers they need to be accurately positioned or they will be out of phase with each other and the shot won't shoot :) BTW 5/10 = 20 thou.
RHELLER (asker) Aug 16, 2006:
Yes, Terry, it is ultrasonic. Thanks.
I decided to use Yakov's idea but I appreciate everyone's help.
Terry Richards Aug 16, 2006:
Is this an ultrasonic shot peening machine? I suspect it is...
Bourth (X) Aug 16, 2006:
I WAS going to say that in my experience, in my fields, "10èmes" usually refers to 10ths of a millimetre ... But I still don't see the connection between "positionnement", "acoustique", and your machine ...
RHELLER (asker) Aug 16, 2006:
Hi Bourth and Yakov, some measurements (i.e. tolerance) are given in mm, but not close by to this paragraph. Thanks for your help.
Bourth (X) Aug 16, 2006:
Do they not specify units somewhere close nearby. Like decibels, maybe? (though I can't see the connection with a shot peening machine).

Yes, I think you should... and make a note that the measurement unit appears to be lost in the sentence
Something went wrong...
