le réveil risque d'être "drôle"

French to English Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology)
This is in a Ppt presentation of various Internet/Wifi security problems and is on the last slide as a sort of conclusion. It's this 'réveil' thing that's really stumping me...is the idea that it's going to be a rude awakening when the security breaches start to happen???
Any ideas on how I can put that in succinct English?
Any help much appreciated, as always!

Lucy-Jane

(they/we) could be in for a nasty surprise

ignore this at your peril! - better safe than sorry

a rude awakening could be in store (not 'likely in store'); we cold end up laughing on the other side of our faces; we could be in for a shock

'Zounds!
Lucy-Jane Michel (asker) May 4, 2007:
BTW Jim, I've combined ancient and modern language as well; you have an intriguing profile, if you don't mind me saying so! ;-)
Lucy-Jane Michel (asker) May 4, 2007:
A rude awakening is likely in store Conveys the idea of the French??
Jim Tucker (X) May 4, 2007:
Oh - more natural way to put it - "It promises to be a rude awakening (for them) "
Jim Tucker (X) May 4, 2007:
The best people are full of self-doubt, Lucy-Jane.
Lucy-Jane Michel (asker) May 4, 2007:
Phew! Thanks for your replies - I'm going through a period of deep translation self-doubt! ;-)
Paula McMullan May 4, 2007:
How about "sudden wake-up call"?
Jim Tucker (X) May 4, 2007:
I agree with Alain and Emma - you're not going to do any better than "there's likely to be a rude awakening"
Alain Pommet May 4, 2007:
Agree with you and Emma - that's what in store for them - is there any shorter expression?
Emma Paulay May 4, 2007:
"rude awakening" sounds just right to me.

Thanks for your answer - I couldn't really grade it though as I used the ideas of the people who added notes to my question...best wishes, Lucy-Jane
