French term

repli

French to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting painter's life
I'm unclear about "repli" in this sentence. I'm assuming "exode" refers to people fleeing south from the north of France during the German invasion. The family's home was near Toulouse in the south of France, so why would they be affected by northerners fleeing (unless this means that family members from elsehwere in France joined the painter, who was in his 80s in 1940). Thanks, Karen
